You will need:
Two thin hairties. Like the one in the picture below!
A hair ribbon (optional)
And of course, a doll! I am using Addy, she is a historical doll from American Girl.
You want to make sure that your doll has long hair. Brush it out before you start! Sit her in between your legs, or have her sit in a doll sized salon chair, for easier results.
STEP ONE:
Grab a small section of hair from either side.
Divide it into three equal sections.
Cross over once, (on each side) like you're braiding normally.
Then, pull another piece of hair over, and add it to one of the other strands of hair. (french braiding)
Pull it over into the braid. (I hope this makes sense!!) French braid one time with the other side.
French braiding the other side......
French braid once more on each side.
Then, continue braiding normally. (Not french braid, as you can see)
Braid all the way down.
Secure with a hairtie.
Front view: Looking good! also, you could do the same thing on the other side, and have her wear her hair down for fancy occasions or for a fun day with friends!
STEP TWO:
On the other side, pull out a smaller section of hair.
Then, pull it back a little so it won't be loose when you're finished. Braid it all the way down!
When you're finished, secure it with a hairtie.
Front view: You're almost finished!
STEP THREE:
Turn your doll around. You might want to stand her up for this part.
Divide her hair into three equal parts.
Braid the sections together. Halfway down, slip out the hairtie that sticks out.
Once you are finished with the last braid, you can secure it with a hairtie....
or with a ribbon!
